THE VIRTUOUS BOOK.
This book contains two dialogues, one by Gui Bonsiepe on the fundamentals of design, and the other by rapper/songwriter Scott Mescudi, aka Kid Cudi, on his journey of becoming a creative professional and the challenges that came with it. Bonsiepe’s way of explaining different design strategies is done in a very academic and prestigious method, while Mescudi handles his conversation in a more laid back and nonchalant way. Though handled somewhat differently, both of these texts have the common theme of making smart decisions while being creative.
These similar yet contrasting dialogues are tied together visually within the book’s spreads by the use of large, elegant page numbers. These page numbers serve as visual anchors for the rest of the typographic assets on each spread. On each page, the layout of all other elements of typography are placed based on the location and behavior of the large page number. One of the most important parts about each spread is how it leads into the next, making sure that there is never an unintentional distraction to the general pacing of the designs.
